Here’s presenting the lush and dreamy “Lemonade”, one of the songs on CocoRosie’s upcoming album ‘Grey Oceans’ (releasing next month). To be honest, this sounds like the band’s best work yet, and is one of the best songs we’ve heard (by any band) in the recent past. Can’t wait for the album to come out!

You can download the song for free at this location.

She & Him, the band with actress Zooey Deschanel (Almost Famous, Yes Man, (500) Days of Summer) and M. Ward, performing “In the Sun” live on The Late Show With David Letterman. The song is from their newly released album ‘Volume Two’, which is definitely worth checking out. Expect a detailed review on Split Magazine soon!

According to Paper Magazine, design/advertising studio Partners & Spade will be hosting another session of their Avant Garde Preschool event on April 11. At 11.30 a.m., for a one-time “tuition” payment of $30, Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore will deliver a “Dissertation on White Noise” to kids aged 8-12. All proceeds go towards the arts program of New York school PS 126.

When school kids usually get lectured about noise, they are told how to keep it at a minimum. Avant-garde, indeed.

Folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling’s new album, titled ‘I Speak Because I Can’ is out now. Here’s the video for “Rambling Man”, one of the songs from the album. If this song is anything to go by, the rest of the album sounds quite promising.

Looks like Bangalore is going to have an extremely loud summer this year. Lamb of God. May 15. Tickets available here.

“Sick Muse” by Metric. Fun song, fun video.

Goodbye WorldSpace

The Washington Post reports:

WorldSpace, a bankrupt satellite radio company, is running  low on funds that it is preparing to send its satellites to a premature death.

[…]

The procedure would involve steering the WorldSpace satellites into a higher orbit, out of the way of others, said Tobias Nassif, vice president of satellite operations and engineering at Intelsat, which would assist WorldSpace. The satellites’ propellant would be dumped and their batteries would be disconnected, leaving them to a frozen death more than 22,000 miles above the Earth. If they were left unattended in the orbital band used by geostationary satellites, they could drift into others, creating debris that could cause more collisions in a cascade of damage, said John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org.

[…]

WorldSpace had previously announced that it planned to stop broadcasting to India, one of its prime markets, on December 31, according to a statement on its website. The company said it would not be able to provide refunds to subscribers, although they could file claims with the bankruptcy court.

“Dominos” by The Big Pink from London, England. This is one of the more popular songs from their debut full-length album ‘A Brief History of Love’ (2009).

Gets stuck in your head, doesn’t it? The video’s not too bad, either.

I would attribute the burgeoning of independent music, actually, to Bollywood — the Hindi film industry. I believe they are actually responsible because today, musically, Bollywood is omnipresent — it’s everywhere, so people need an alternative to that.
